The selection of materials for shaft parts is mainly determined by the strength, rigidity, wear resistance and manufacturability of the shaft, striving for economic rationality. The commonly used materials for shaft parts include high-quality carbon steels of 35, 45 and 50, among which 45 steel is the most widely applied.
Common carbon steels such as Q235 and Q255 can also be used for shafts that are subjected to relatively small loads or are not very important. Alloy steel can be used in cases where the force is relatively large, the axial dimension and weight are restricted, or there are certain special requirements. For instance, 40Cr alloy steel can be used in medium-precision and high-speed working conditions. After quenching and tempering treatment, this material has good comprehensive mechanical properties. Alloy steels such as Cr15 and 65Mn can be selected for situations with high precision and poor working conditions.
After quenching and tempering and surface hardening, these materials have good wear resistance and fatigue strength. For shaft parts operating under high-speed and heavy-load conditions, low-carbon steels such as 20Cr, 20CrMnTi, and 20Mn2B or 38CrMoA1A carburized steels should be selected. After carburizing, quenching or nitriding treatment, these steels not only have very high surface hardness, but also their core strength is greatly enhanced. Therefore, it has excellent wear resistance, impact toughness and fatigue strength.
A shaft is an important component used in mechanical engineering to support rotating parts (such as gears, pulleys, impellers, etc.) and transmit motion and power. It is widely used and its core function is to transmit force and motion through its own rotation. Shafts are widely used in automobiles, motorcycles, engines, drones, pumps, toothbrushes, transportation, household appliances, etc.
